like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end. | Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 1:12, 13:8
Today, we live in a VUCA world –Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. All these terms signify everchanging circumstances and environment. Facing all these changes, can we find anything that is constant (besides death and taxes)? Perhaps the resolution is not in trying to find something that is constant, but rather, someone who is constant. Our answer to that can be found here in Hebrews 1:8 and 12: “Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: . . . you are the same, and your years will have no end”.
Take note, the Bible says that God is the unchanging one (Malachi 3:6), not life. Therefore, it is expected that all of us, whether believers or not will go through changes throughout our lives. Thankfully, as children of God, we can experience constant from the Lord Himself as God declares Himself to be “I AM who I AM” (Exodus 3:14). The term “I Am” signifies active existence at different points of time in the same form as a being. Just like the Psalmist proclaimed: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps 46:1), the same God who was present in biblical times is available and present to us today as an invincible refuge from the enemy to a certain hope for eternity! It’s always in times of uncertainties and change that we can depend on hearing God’s reassurance through His written Word, Jesus, who also is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), as well as His presence through the Holy Spirit. Because our God is an unchanging God even though we live in a world where changes are abounding.
May the Lord grant us absolute (unchanging) faith and trust in our never changing Lord. Although we cannot fathom nor comprehend the unchanging-ness of God, we can have this reassurance from the Scriptures, which is God-breathed. Let us walk by faith and not by sight.
