Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16
How we conduct our selves in terms of behaviour and speech will determine how much influence we have on others. Perhaps some may use the word “charisma” to describe it.
In the Christian context, the Word “Charisma” does not mean compelling attractiveness and articulate mannerism. It simply means “gift,” or even better, “free gift,” a classic example being Romans 6:23: “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
If truly the “word of Christ dwells in us richly,” we shall be “singing with grace in our hearts.” Just a few verses further on, we are admonished to “let our speech be always with grace” (Colossians 4:6). Paul then concludes the Colossians epistle with: “Grace be with you. Amen” .
As fellow believes (Christians) of the Lord Jesus Christ, unless the Word of Christ dwells richly in us, we would not be able to minister grace and be gracious to others so easily. Unless we allow the Holy Spirit to tenderise our hearts and be led by the promptings of the spirit, we will not have the appetite for spiritual things and we will definitely not be able to ‘indulge’ in singing and admonishing each other in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
May The Lord grant us wisdom and discipline to spend time in reading and learning of God’s Words so that it will always be our meditations throughout the day. May we then be able to influence others to Christ through our words and deeds.
